Description
Ripon College Dance Company was formed in April of 1971; followed by a show entitled Life of Christ performed in the Fall of the same year. James Smoley, as Jesus Christ, along with Bronna Wollman as the Virgin Mary and James Dahlman as Joseph helped pave the way for the continuance of RCDC with their fluidity and stage presence.
Missy Allen and her troupe of dancers sought to entertain and instruct the Ripon community in the elements of dance through lectures and demonstrations on choreography, movement, and dance. RCDC put on a show every semester comprised of several suites that imparted not only exposure to dance theory but even social commentary upon the audience.
1975 would be the last time Allen would direct the company due to cut backs in funding. However, time proved that RCDC could continue to thrive without her direction and its graduated student founders. Five years later, however, marked the final year of RCDC. Ripon College Dance Company for nearly a decade entertained, taught, and inspired the members of Ripon’s community.
